Lady in Yellow by Terry Schmidbauer

This shot is right from the camera using an in-camera, creative post process called miniature. The funny thing about this photo is after I walked past this lady dressed in yellow, it turned out to be a guy. It surprised the hell out of me! There’s nothing wrong with it, it was just so out of place in downtown Kirkland.

Beautiful Danger by Terry Schmidbauer

Snow can be your best friend or your worst enemy. I saw this cornice and was taken by its beauty but after I got past that I realized what a dangerous, fragile thing it was. At any minute it could come crashing down.

This was developed in Lightroom 4.1 I really felt I needed to balance the white mountain with something heavy in the sky. So as a balancing device, I used a dark graduation from the top of the frame. This also helps bring the interest toward the lower part of the frame. I also increased the contrast between the cornice and the sky by slightly darkening the clouds behind the cornice. I used a very large brush to darken the sky and the snow at the same time and came back with a smaller brush and erased the cornice back in. That a technique I’ve used in Lightroom quite a bit.

That Nike Look by Terry Schmidbauer

Josh is a physical trainer so I thought this would be fitting to take a portrait of him with this Nike kind of look. I’m not sure if Nike is still doing this kind of photography for their athletes but it was such a strong campaign that it’s etched in my brain. That is what Photography can do!

Snow Tapestry by Terry Schmidbauer

This is one of my favorite shots from last week end. I was thinking about the tapestry look to this snow covered hill when I took the shot. But now that I’ve looked at it for a while it also carries some social aspects like man effect on his environment. I think there some deeper meanings here to explore but it make take some thought. I would love to print this really large.
